This is the most recommended tour of northern Pakistan for those who can afford long vacation. The Karakoram Highway, the Indus River, Skardu, Hunza, the Kunjurab Pass, the Shandur Pass crossing, the Kalash Valley, and views of the high peaks of the Himalayan, Karakoram, Hindu Kush range. The journey will take you to the "Roof of the World". Discover the "spectacular scenery of mountainous Pakistan".


Fly from Islamabad to Skardu. Head to Shigar Valley after arrival. (In case of flight cancellation, travel overland to Chilas to spend a night and arrive in Skardu in the afternoon of the second day.)
Enjoy a visit to Sarfranga Desert, Hussainabad Village, and Shigar Valley
A full-day excursion trip to Deosai National Park. There might be chances to encounter the Himalayan brown bear and long-tailed marmot, all at an altitude of approximately 4,200m. Enjoy a view of Nanga Parbat (8,126m), the world's ninth highest peak, from Shoesar lake.
Take the Skardu Road along the Indus River to the Karakoram Highway. You can see Nanga Parbat from the junction. Then, drive north on the Karakoram Highway to Karimabad, the center of Hunza.
A full-day excursion in Karimabad (Baltit Fort, Altit Village, Nagar Valley, etc.) In the evening, enjoy the view of the Karakoram range in the sunset from Duikal.
Full day to visit Upper Hunza and the Kunjurab Pass on the border with China. Enjoy the beautiful mountains and spectacular scenery where the Wakhi people lives.
Drive south from Hunza on the Karakoram Highway along the Gilgit River into the Ghizer Valley and to Gupis.
From Gupis, cross the Shandur Pass, where the world's highest polo tournament is held, and enter the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. Drive to Ayun, a town on the banks of the Chitral River.
Full day to visit the Bumburet and Rumbur valleys where the Kalash people lives.
Drive back to Islamabad through Lowari Tunnel.

It is possible to adjest the itinerary according to your preferred region and duration. We also recommend that you travel overland from Islamabad to Skardu via Chilas and Astor Valley as an example.

Please plan your travel schedule with enough time to spare. The flight from Islamabad to Skardu is a mountain flight and its operation is dependent on the weather. In case of flight cancellations, it takes two days to get there. The road over the Shandur Pass on the 8th day of the itinerary is mostly unpaved, and in the rare event of a landslide, the road may be closed and the itinerary may need to be rearranged.
